According to a report from the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are now showing an interest in Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel as the transfer window comes to a close.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham, while Goal UK understands that the midfielder was on Chelsea’s shortlist earlier this summer.
However, this has not deterred Spurs from making a move for the 26-year-old, who will have to persuade former manager Andre Villas-Boas to part with the player.
Spurs are in the market for a midfielder following the departures of several players including Lewis Holtby, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli, this summer.
Pochettino has identified the centre of his midfield as an area that needs improving and is hopeful of landing Southampton’s Victor Wanyama before Tuesday’s 6pm deadline. The Kenya global and Witsel play in similar positions and so signing both appears the less logical outcome.
And there has been speculation that Premier League giants Tottenham are also showing late interest in the Belgium worldwide.
