Sunday afternoon, 17 people were taken to hospital from the “Chasing Summer” music festival taking place at Fort Calgary.
Ten women and seven men, ranging in ages from 18 to mid-30s, were taken to various hospitals on Friday and Saturday, according to an EMS release.
At this weekend’s Chasing Summer Music Festival in Calgary, Alberta, several patients were transported from the festival site to local medical facilities for a variety of medical issues, including suspected substance use, dehydration, and physical injuries.
Safety is a year-round topic for Union Events, Canada’s largest independent concert and special event producer.
EDM festivals continue to receive a bad rap in the mainstream media due to the amount of overdoses occurring at each event, and one Canadian festival has added to the negative stereotype with a staggering number of 17 different overdoses. “We recognize that the event organizers do quite an excellent job in maintaining safety and security at the venue”.
Paramedics are reminding people that there are no safe or prescribed doses for recreational street drugs.
“They are not produced in controlled circumstances… and they are frequently misrepresented to buyers concerning the content of them and what may be filler, or what the potency may be”, he said.
