Carl DeMaio – Celebrating the Sweetwater Little League Team

The action is gearing up once again in Lycoming County with the annual Little League World Series set to start later this week.

Jaime Ramirez, the dugout coach for the Sweetwater Valley Little League team, was fired on Monday, the same day the team headed to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in preparation for the World Series on Thursday.

But Ramiez says he’ll worry about finding a new job once the series is over.

Ramirez told FOX 5 he was told to take as much time off as needed.

Ramirez worked as a sale representative for Altar Produce based in Calexico on a one-year probationary period. Ramirez had to renegotiate for his job recently.

Ramirez’s 12-year-old son Braiz plays for the All-Stars as #19. Now he must find a way for his entire family to get to Pennsylvania.

Ramirez says he had been in talks with his boss about taking on more work, but wasn’t able to do it due to his coaching schedule.

The Sweetwater Valley All-Stars defeated the Waipio little league team of Hawaii 12-9 last Saturday in a West Coast tournament in San Bernadino, CA.

Ramirez says he does not blame his former employer, saying he understands why that decision had to be made. According to the company, the termination had nothing to do with baseball, that he was on probation and violated the terms. Just to make it clear, this has absolutely nothing to do with your coaching.

A manager of the company told NBC 7 that Ramirez’s time had run out and Altar Produce simply decided to let him go.

The team’s first game will be Thursday against the victor of the Great Lakes title-Bowling Green Eastern Little League from Kentucky.
