The St Louis Cardinals had to Miller Park to battle the division rival Milwaukee Brewers.
Minnesota Twins right-hander Phil Hughes was activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. The Pittsburgh Pirates trail the Cardinals by only 2.5 games in the NL Central and could seriously make a run in the final weeks of the season to displace St. Louis as the best team in baseball. The National League All-Star also was on the disabled list from June 9 to July 16 with the same injury, forcing him to miss the Midsummer Classic.
WJBC will have the broadcast with the Cardinals Radio Network starting at 6:15 p.m. Martinez has been a consistent member of the rotation with a 13-7 record and 3.12 ERA over 26 starts. He and the Cardinals are now -171 road favorites against Ariel Pena and the Brewers. Lefthander Jaime Garcia, who will pitch Wednesday, has beaten the Brewers twice this year, holding them to one run and five hits over 14 innings.
“I felt a little emotional which you expect as something normal, ” Pena said.
Jonathan Lucroy hasn’t played since suffering a concussion last Tuesday in Miami, and his status is uncertain.
The St. Louis Cardinals will have both Matt Holliday and Matt Adams in tonight’s lineup. He had two of the Brewers’ four hits off Martinez in April.
