Caitlyn Jenner contemplated suicide

But, while I won’t be seeking out back episodes of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami any time soon, I have to admit that I Am Cait (or at least the premiere episode) won me over.

According to People magazine E! was able to capture the very moment Caitlyn introduced herself to youngest daughter, Kylie Jenner. Caitlyn also attends a balloon-release ceremony for Kyler on a beach. Insisting she is now “optimistic” about life, she is shown signing a birthday card to Esther as Caitlyn – marking the first time she had written her new name.

Jenner’s words come at a time when suicide in the LGBT community – particularly in the trans community – continues to be a major problem.

“What a responsibility I have – I just hope I get it right“, Jenner says of sharing her story. It joins transgender-oriented reality series “Becoming Us” on ABC Family and “I Am Jazz” on TLC.

It’s a series that, from the first episode, appears to have a lot to talk about.

But the 17-year-old replies: “You’re not scaring me, you look pretty!”

Later, Esther tells Caitlyn, “I never knew. But I will”. Caitlyn nervously answered the video chat.

“The family change and transition with her”, Lisa adds.

Jenner’s mother, Esther, has said that she would come around eventually. “It’s going to take some getting used to, but I want to do what you want”. Landon sits down with Caitlyn and her two sisters and mom to discuss her recent transition, and she also speaks to the cameras directly about said sit-down with the family. In stark contrast, he is engaging and animated when he and Kim stop by, maybe speaking more in the first episode of I Am Cait than he has for entire seasons of Keeping Up. Eventually Caitlyn concludes, “Bruce was a lot better tennis player than Caitlyn is”.

While the series is off to a solid start, there’s always the possibility that the Kardashians could creep into it more and more.

When stepdaughter Kim Kardashian West stops by and goes through her closet, she reveals that mum Kris has the same dress as Caitlyn. (“I don’t think I can be too much in la femme mode”, Caitlyn says.) Most don’t have Diane Von Furstenberg sending them couture outfits, or get messages from the head of Twitter that their new accounts may hit a million followers faster than President Obama’s. “With Bunim /Murray, it’s been the opposite of inspiration”. And then they never show up.

The production: Hey, after all, it’s an E! show. Because of her wealth and celebrity status, Jenner is in a very different position than most people seeking to transition.
