Veep“, a parody of American politics adapted from a British satire, won three of the early awards handed out tonight, two for acting and one for writing. Its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus won best comedy actress for the fourth time for playing the egotistical Selina Meyer, while Tony Hale, who plays her bag man, was again named comedy supporting actor.



Tambor won for his role as a father who transitions to a woman, and he dedicated the award – his first Emmy – to the transgender community. Game of Thrones is now tied with “Hill Street Blues” and “The West Wing” as the most-honored drama series ever. “Getting the recognition he deserves!” It was his first win after 15 nominations.

For now it was a great night for Game of Thrones and one that was long overdue. Fox not winning anything on the night it hosted the show wasn’t too much of a surprise. “The Voice” won for outstanding reality competition series, its second Emmy win in the category.
