Thrill-seekers somehow escaped largely unscathed after an elastic rope snapped on a “slingshot” ride at a theme park in southern France.
They were reportedly left stranded in the air for around an hour before firefighters were able to come to their rescue.
A video posted to YouTube by spectator Claude Pons at Luna Park in the town of Cap d’Agde shows the “Fifth Element” ride launch on the evening of August. 4 and “slingshot” up and down once while two passengers spin inside a ball-shaped auto.
Witnesses gasp and shriek in horror as the cage is thrown into the support column and bobs up and down before coming to a rest.
One woman suffered a broken leg and the other passenger incredibly received no injuries after the terrifying accident.
Luna Park officials told the newspaper that this type of malfunction has never happened before.
Bosses at the popular park only said that there had been a “manufacturing defect” in the elastic.
The ride was closed for an investigation.
A bystander filmed the ride and captured the moment one side of the elastic that secures the bungee carriage simply snapped.
