Andy Moeller, an offensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns, has been suspended indefinitely, the team announced. The arrest was his third off-field incident involving alchohol.
Coach Mike Pettine said that George DeLeone, assistant line coach, would assume Moeller’s duties and Kurt Roper, senior offensive assistant, would join him.
Scott Taylor of WOIO in Cleveland was first to report that Berea Police will have no further update or comment on the matter until Tuesday.
In 2011, Moeller was suspended for two games and fined $47,000 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, stemming from a driving while impaired arrest in 2010.
Entering his second season in Cleveland, Moeller was set to head up one of the top offensive lines in the NFL.
According to a Browns spokesman, Moeller was involved in an incident over the weekend, resulting in the suspension. I don’t have time to sit here and reflect on big picture.
While it’s not fair to speculate about what led to Moeller’s latest suspension, allegations that the franchise takes “very seriously” could potentially indicate that Moeller is facing something more severe, even than another DUI.
“We have been in this system two years together now so we have all the groundwork in place”, he said.
Members of a veteran offensive line, however, believe they can overcome his absence, which could be long term, as the Browns prepare to face the Jets on Sunday in a regular-season opener. “We have a full season under our belt from past year. We will be able to keep going forward”.
Moeller played and coached at Michigan.
