According to NewsNet5.com’s Alyssa Pasicznyk and Dena Greer, Gilbert crashed following an altercation with the driver of a Ford Mustang in Brunswick, Ohio.
Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert crashed his auto late Friday afternoon during what the Brunswick police describe as a road rage incident.
Police issued Gilbert a citation for lack of responsible control. Daren Lubinsky said. His auto had to be towed because of damage to the undercarriage.
The Browns-who are preparing for a Week 1 clash with the New York Jets-have not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
According to Sgt. Robert Safran, the conflict occurred when one vehicle cut off another on the I-71 in Middleburg Heights. The man accused Gilbert of throwing a cup of chewing tobacco or spit onto his vehicle while they were on the highway. They went into Hinckley through an industrial park and into Brunswick. The other driver was given a ticket for disorderly conduct. The citations are waverable and neither driver has to appear in court.
Gilbert, the eighth overall pick in the 2014 draft, has been a disappointment to date for the Browns. He started only two games as a rookie and is trying to return from a hip injury suffered in training camp.
