Vivien Eng, who most recently played a nurse in the film “The Butler”, was pulled from her burning 33rd-floor apartment at W. 43rd St. and Tenth Ave. at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. Fire Marshalls were quoted on the DNAinfo website as saying the fire had started from “smoking materials” that hadn’t been extinguished properly. 51-year-old Vivian Eng was hospitalized in critical condition after the fire, but succumbed to her injuries. She was taken to the burn unit of New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she died Thursday as a result of burns and smoke inhalation.
An actor tried to help his neighbor after fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building in Manhattan Tuesday afternoon, but she sadly died the following day.
Baker, who played Dr Curt Connors in Spider-Man 2 and 3, and who has a recurring television role on the CBS legal drama “The Good Wife, ‘ described how ‘there was flames everywhere, and smoke coming out at me”.
Baker then called 911 and moved his family out of the apartment building. When Baker entered through the open front door, he found the fire out of control and heard no response when he called out Eng’s name. So we got the heck out’. News of the fire was first reported by NBC O&O television station WNBC4.
Speaking to the television station, Baker said: ‘When I opened the door, it was a full-fledge on fire’. She later acted as an extra in shows like “Law and Order”. Eng also appeared in Paper Mill Playhouse’s Chess production and a regional revival of West Side Story.
