During a historic trip to Alaska intended to call attention to climate change, President Obama got a bit of a surprise while at a fishing village at Kanakanak Beach.

During his weekly radio address on August 29, Obama added to this, saying, “If another country threatened to wipe out an American town, we’d do everything in our power to protect ourselves”. But instead he worries about renaming a mountain.

“For decades, Alaskans have been urging the federal government to recognize Denali by its proposer name”, Walker said.

That President Barack Obama announced this week he is restoring the original name is a tribute to the Native peoples of Alaska and to a history that predates a president of the United States. For generations, Alaskans had insisted that the mountain be formally known again by a name that was indigenously Alaskan – only to be thwarted by Republicans back in Washington. “In Ohio, we felt it was appropriate”.

Gov. Bill Walker and Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott welcomed the official name change.

Bristol Palin was furious after President Barack Obama confirmed his decision to restore Mt. Mckinley’s name to Denali, it’s original Native American name.

Bristol said she never called the mountain Denali.

“By the way, no one is buying the ‘Denali is what the Alaskans have called it for years’ line. I’ve never called the mountain Denali, and neither does anyone I know…It’s Mt. Mckinley…It always has been and always will be to most of us,” Bristol claimed.
