The rookie fourth-round draft pick was declared inactive for the Ravens’ game against the Denver Broncos, leaving the team with just Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil and Courtney Upshaw at outside linebacker. He expressed confidence to reporters Thursday about being able to suit up, but he also acknowledged that his production could be limited because of the injury.
Lawrence Guy will start at defensive tackle for Jernigan. By being listed as doubtful, it indicates that there is only a 25 percent chance of playing for Jernigan, who has been earmarked as the one to replace Haloti Ngata. Both totals are the second-highest allowed in Ravens history. He had 10 tackles, one sack and two passes batted down.
The Ravens face the Broncos at Sports Authority Field on Sunday.
It may be indicative of nothing, rookie wide receiver Breshad Perriman’s long-running knee injury served as the Ravens’ only practice absence September 11. Cornerback Rashaan Melvin is working through a thigh injury that held him out of multiple practices this week, putting his status in jeopardy for the opener.
Backup running back Lorenzo Talifaerro (knee) was also ruled out, which was somewhat surprising after he returned to practice Friday as a limited participant.
Perriman will have to wait to make his National Football League debut.
