Beleaguered Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has acknowledged that her authorities might have made some errors however is pledging it’s going to get previous them.

Brazil will welcome Syrian refugees with “open arms”, President Dilma Rousseff said Monday, as various Latin American nations sought to help with the human tidal wave fleeing the war-torn country.

But she also blamed the country’s recession on the economic situation overseas, particularly flagging growth in emerging countries.

The image “touched all of us and presented the world with a challenge”, said Rousseff, noting Brazilian society is made up of different ethnicities.

Mercadante, Silva and Nunes were implicated by the plea-bargain testimony of one of those detained in the so-called “Operation Carwash”, a snowballing investigation into corruption at state-run oil company Petrobras that has already caught up top politicians as well as executives of some of Brazil’s biggest construction firms.

Mercadante and Silva have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

In a video message marking Brazil’s Independence Day, Rousseff said she wanted to “reiterate the government’s willingness to welcome those who, driven from their homeland, want to come live, work and contribute to the prosperity and peace of Brazil”.

But the two latest cases bring the scandal into her inner circle just days after charges were brought against the treasurer of her Workers Party and a former chief of staff of ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Rousseff’s predecessor and political mentor.

Earlier this week, Temer suggested that Rousseff would be unable to survive to the end of her mandate in 2018 if her popularity ratings remain low.

Meanwhile, anti-government protesters demanding Rousseff’s impeachment or resignation demonstrated in Brasilia, deploying inflatable satirical floats that featured Rousseff in red and Silva in prison stripes.
