Sunday, that meant Dwyane Wade in a New York Jets jersey.

What people will remember is the way they turned it on on both sides of the ball-efficient on offense, attacking and forcing turnovers on defense, en route to a 31-10 victory in the debut of head coach Todd Bowles, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, and wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Marshall realized Tashaun Gipson probably wasn’t the most skilled ballcarrier and just ripped at the ball as hard as he could.

Not only are the Dolphins and Jets divisional rivals in the AFC East, but Marshall is a former Dolphins player as well.

“That play to me was the play of the game”, Bowles said.

First thing Geno Smith must have thought about was how much of a difference Marshall (six reception, 62 yards, one touchdown) might have made for him. “That play, to me, was the play of the game”. In what looks like a SnapChat photo Wade says “family” so he is likely more concerned with supporting Marshall than the Jets. And Chris Owusu, who had been cut and then returned last week, had four catches for 55 yards.

“I was kind of screaming at the coaches a little bit because they took me off the field the play before”, Marshall said, smiling. Safeties are going to have to key on where he’s at.

Wade was in the New York area for Saturday’s women’s final at the U.S. Open.

“I knew [McCown] wasn’t going to get down”, Pryor said.

Marshall’s 1-yard touchdown catch, which made it 21-10 in the third quarter, came over Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden. To be able to rely on the run game in the second half, to kind of grind out the clock with our defense playing well and creating turnovers, I thought we did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage.

Marshall outjumped Haden and scored his first touchdown as a Jet. Marshall, on the sideline, told Fitzpatrick he wanted to come back in and he should throw him the ball. We get the ball back, we’re up 7-0.

“It was just one-on-one out there”, said Fitzpatrick, who was 15-for-24 for 179 yards with two TDs and one interception.

“It’s always nice to get that win out of the way – the first one”, Decker said. “He had a big size advantage [five inches] and he went up and got it. That makes my job easy, to have a player like that, as competitive as he is, to go and make that play”. You can bet it won’t be his last.

“He’s just played a lot of football”, Fitzpatrick said.

Said Fitzpatrick: “He’s just played a lot of football. I really don’t think I shook that play off”.
