Bound 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport unveiled in Thailand

Mitsubishi’s new Montero Sport that we’ve been spying for the past several months has finally made its debut.

The new Pajero Sport is packed with a number of features that are a first for any Mitsubishi across the world.

Sales of the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will commence this fall in Thailand and shortly after that it will be available in Australia, the ASEAN countries, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Russian Federation, for a total of more than 90 countries.

At the front we see a no-holds-barred interpretation of Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” design seen on recent concept cars while tyre-kickers are in for a shock when moving to the back, where the new SUV has long, vertical taillights that appear to drip into the bumper like wet paint. Inside the Pajero Sport brings Mitsubishi interiors into a new league, with high-quality material choices and textures applied to its classic T-format console and dash. It seems to be spacious, and is equipped with large leather seats.

The SUV is offered with a 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo-diesel engine mated to an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The new engine and especially the eight-speed transmission enable the Pajero Sport to post a 17 per cent improvement in fuel economy while Mitsubishi in Thailand says the Carbon dioxide level won’t exceed 200g/km. It also achieves a Carbon dioxide emissions rating of under 200 g/km, which puts it into the lowest bracket of the new excise tax structure to be introduced in Thailand in January 2016.

The all-new Pajero Sport comes with a very comprehensive active and passive safety features.

The all-new Pajero Sport uses a further-evolved version of MMC’s own Super-Select 4WD-II four-wheel drive system.

Among a suite of safety features announced with the new auto are Blind Sport Warning (BSW), Forward Collision Mitigation braking (FCM), Multi-around Monitor (giving a bird’s eye image of the vehicle), electronic parking brake, seven SRS airbags and a kind of crash-avoidance technology, called Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS), which overrides accelerator pressure if an obstacle is detected. For the first time this system can be fitted with off-road terrain selection and hill descent control.

“The 2016 Challenger represents a new-generation of SUV with luxury, high-tech safety features and superior comfort while still delivering class-leading 4WD capabilities and great on-road performance”, MMA Director of Marketing Tony Principe said.

With CKD kits manufactured in Thailand, the next generation model could continue being assembled at the Hindustan Motor Finance Corp’s (HMFCL) Tiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu.
