An investigation is underway after a suspected bank robber is shot by police in downtown Bluefield, WV.
Law enforcement officers are on the scene of an incident that happened on Raleigh St.in Bluefield, WV on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at around 9 a.m.
The name of a bank robber who died Tuesday in a shootout with police in downtown Bluefield has been released.
Police say the suspect was killed in the exchange. Police engaged the suspect at First Community Bank and the suspect was killed.
Early indications are that there may have been two bank robbery suspects involved in Bluefield this morning.
The lone suspect died after shooting at Bluefield police officers, state police said in a Facebook post.
“The calls came into 911 within a couple of minutes of each other”, said State Police Spokesman Lieutenant Michael Baylous.
Shortly after that, there was a bank robbery at First Community Bank.
The suspicious device found at First Century Bank was highly sophisticated but later found to not be an explosive. Furthermore, a person of interest (possibly the second suspect) has been detained.
Bluefield Police Dennis Dillow told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that shots were fired as the man left the second bank.
