The Alabama Department of Health gave the company the OK last Wednesday to resume production at the plant, where Blue Bell conducted trial runs last month.
The plant stopped production of the ice cream and removed the product from store shelves in April when it was learned that the product was linked to listeria illnesses in March.
“That is excellent news”. Blue Bell production facilities in Texas and Oklahoma have not yet been cleared to resume production. And yes, they are filled with Blue Bell Ice Cream!
“We have had to break down and buy another brand, but it is not the same as Blue Bell”. Our message to Blue Bell executives, “Stop eating and start shipping!” At least 10 people were infected with listeria from the company’s products, three of whom died, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Brenham, Texas-based creamery was recalling 180 workers as it stockpiles ice cream in preparation for an eventual return to market.
Sprenger said, “It is sad to go by and see it empty; and every day you look and think, when is it going to come back, when are we going to have it back?” Blue Bell said the facility there is smaller, which allowed them to complete improvements sooner.
A follow-up tweet read that consumers will soon get to know from where they can have the ice creams. Sprenger said, for her, it’s strawberry.
