The excitement centers on a few different ideas.
During a lunar eclipse, the moon turns the color of blood. More widespread is simply the anticipation of seeing an unbelievable celestial sight.
Thirdly, this Blood Moon is unique because it will be a super moon, which is when the moon is closest to earth in its orbit.

What’s more special about this moon than the appearance is timing, or rather, the frequency with which the type of lunar eclipses we refer to as a blood moon are nowoccurring.
The incredible alignments, which conclude in the early hours, had six full moons in between, has only happened a handful of times in the last 2,000 years, with pastor Biltz claiming they all historically coincided with a globally significant event for Israel. There will be a total of eight this century. Pastor Hagee believes this exceptional celestial alignment is consistent with biblical prophecy and with God’s unfolding message to humankind.
In a sermon to hundreds in his Church on October 28 2012, he used powerful language about what the Blood Moon meant, claiming the “second coming” could come “in an instant” after the last Blood Moon.
Some believe that this rare astrological event heralds the “end of days”. As with most rapture predictions, though, this largely comes from a few outlying groups, not from any mainstream belief systems. Rarely do Scripture, science and historical events align; yet the current “four blood moons” have fallen on the Jewish holy days of Passover 2014, Sukkot 2014, Passover 2015 and now Sukkot 2015.
