“If all lives really mattered, we wouldn’t have a governor telling us that it’s inappropriate to protest”. But in this particular case what is ironic is that those voicing the chant were also being protected by very officers targeted.

“The chant is disgusting”. The St. Paul Police Federation and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association have also criticized the message.

There is no evidence that Miles has any connection to the Black Lives Matter movement, but the “Fox & Friends” segment made a point to strongly imply that Black Lives Matter was at fault for Goforth’s death. “It’s just ridiculous”.

Rashad Turner, Black Lives Matter St. Paul organizer, said Monday that the chant was not promoting violence against police. I think to myself, “What could be more provocative than, say, the Holocaust?” The police union had encouraged people to attend the Fair on Saturday to patronize family-owned vendors who have been supportive of officers. “The officer in Cincinnati, charged with killing a black motorist, got out on bail a couple days later”. Monday afternoon, when asked about the chant by an anchorwoman on CNN, Turner restated his concern that too much focus was being placed on “rhetoric”.

Since then, deaths of other unarmed Black males at the hands of law enforcement officers have inspired protests under the “Black Lives Matter” moniker.

“I would love to think about the fact that one of us is killed every 28 hours, I would love for that to be rhetoric and not reality”.

But Turner didn’t distance himself from those marchers, as police had expected him to do. Meanwhile, a Reuters story on the less than peaceful march by the “Black Lives Matter” crowd attended by an estimated 325 (compared to an expected 900) in Minneapolis was carried at Yahoo News and the New York Times (at least).

When Black Lives Matter protesters chanted “pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon”, they were only being “playful” with officers, the leader of the demonstration told MSNBC on Tuesday.

The Minnesota State Fair tweeted around 1 p.m. that Como Avenue was temporarily blocked off after protesters marched there from Snelling.

“I feel like the individuals that are trying to hide under the banner, they need to be out called”, said Williams, president of the civil rights group’s Detroit chapter.

“While the Black Lives Matter Network applauds political change towards making the world safer for Black life, our only endorsement goes to the protest movement we’ve built together with Black people nationwide – not the self-interested candidates, parties, or political machine seeking our vote.”

Dayton had earlier called the State Fair demonstration “inappropriate,” and organizers planned Tuesday’s march to demand an apology from the governor.
