Bills head coach Rex Ryan seemed positive late last month that McCoy would be joining them in Week 1, but he did not discuss any information regarding the running back’s MRI.
“I knew we weren’t gonna have a good team when we didn’t do anything in free agency”, Ryan said, referring to Idzik’s quiet offseason before the team went 4-12.
“I kind of knew coming into this organization what the situation was, leading up to it”, said Simms. Being down, being injured for a little bit, you stay mentally into it, going to meetings, and get inside your playbook, you kind of lose that excitement nearly. Exhausted of seeing us, you know, we’ve got a kickoff guy, and we miss field goals.
McCoy admitted he didn’t do a whole lot in what was described as a light practice by the players a day after their final preseason game against the Lions Thursday night.
The Bills top back made it clear that he wants to be able to put his full game on display, and that means being the cutting and bobbing running back that eludes the big hits and can make something out of nothing or use his acceleration to turn a positive play into a big one.
“There’s only one person in that organization that I haven’t gotten honesty from, and that was [Whaley]”, Jackson, who is expected to sign with the Seahawks, told the News. Ryan said he hoped the kicker position would have been buttoned up.
Ryan suggested he is certainly looking for a new kicker, but as of now, Carpenter still has a job. I’m exhausted of seeing us missing field goal. That’s obviously something I’ve done only about half the time.
“Again, we’ll be open to anything”, the coach said. “I can’t say that at all”, the source added, also saying that it will take them time to get McCoy game ready and he will not be in shape once they play in Week 1. “There are always guys that will step up and earn a job in this game”. “You see that around the league right now as cuts are happening”.
“I was excited, I knew I had the opportunity coming into this fourth game”, said Tarpley, a Stanford product.
When Idzik was hired in 2013, Ryan was already the head coach, having taken the Jets to consecutive AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010.
