HBO host Bill Maher was corrected by Fusion and Univision anchor Jorge Ramos for saying “illegals” on Friday’s “Real Time“. Bill does not stand with Ahmed, and it doesn’t look like he ever will.

While Maher says that he was undoubtedly owed an apology, he asked for a little perspective, questioning his guests on whether or not the teachers really did anything wrong.

Maher appeared to be a bit riled up with that notion, claiming, “Excuse me, somebody look me in the eye right here and tell me over the last 30 years if so many young Muslim men – and he is young, 14, but not that it hasn’t happened before – hasn’t blown a lot of sh*t up around the world”.

While many have gathered around Ahmed supportively, including President Obama, there are some people who aren’t taking it well.

By now you’ve most likely heard about Ahmed Mohamed and his clock.

After Maher used the term “illegals”, Ramos corrected him with “We don’t call them illegals”. Ahmed was proud of his invention, but school officials and police in Irvine, Texas, did not feel the same way.

Maher does not believe Ahmed’s teacher made the wrong move in bringing the homemade clock to the attention of school officials. Bill’s statements only further push the argument that he was arrested because of his Muslim faith and his appearance. “What if it had been a bomb?” Bill raged on TV about the “lack of perspective” in Ahmed’s case – and sided with the teachers who turned him in.

“Only 25 miles away, somebody did try to kill people”, Bill said, referring to that incident.

“He’s a great kid”. No one’s doubting that. Maher opened his segment on Mohamed by admitting that he deserved an apology from the school, but the comedian insisted that the arrest was fair and not driven by white privilege or racism. “I’m just asking about perspective”.
