After a 27-year-old Hawaii man made it to shore following a shark attack, he tried to call his mother.

Rocha managed to whip out his phone to capture the aftermath of the terrifying encounter after he swam to safety and alerted his fishing friend who called police, the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said.

“She was jaws wide open, right in front of my face”, Rocha said, – “And I just kind of balled up like that fetal position – both of my legs were crunched up toward my chest, kinda crunched up and her head was probably like this big”.

Beaches weren’t closed because the tiger shark attack occurred in an “isolated and remote area”, authorities said. I just put my hands on top of her nose to get her away from me but she was pushing me back – just because of her brute force.

Rocha said his original video was removed from Instagram due its graphic nature.

It had rained heavily, and they warned people not to go into the ocean afterward because murky water can attract sharks.

Rocha was taken to the North Hawaii Hospital in serious condition and underwent surgery on his left leg, the Hawaii Herald-Tribune reported. Doctors told him that he will make a full recovery once his wounds, which required about 100 staples, heal.

“They were like ‘wow, you just got attacked by a shark, you could have died”.
