Minutes before his ill-fated journey home from a auto show he happened to meet a family at a gas station near Hagerstown, Maryland.
Police dashcam video of Robinson being pulled over by Montgomery County police went viral in 2012, his website states.
The driver of the vehicle which hit the Batmobile wasn’t injured and because the crash is still under investigation, no charges have yet been filed.
“It’s rewarding in a completely different way, just making that child smile”, he said. He got out to check the engine while still in the lane, and a Toyota Camry struck his vehicle, which in turn hit him, the statement said.
Robinson, who lived near Baltimore, made a large amount of money running a building cleaning business. He provided kids with so much hope and he shared our mission to make these kids happy and whole. Back in March 2012, Robinson was pulled over in full costume in Maryland while the camera on the police cruiser dashboard caught the entire interaction.
“I’m just doing it for the kids”, Robinson told the Washington Post when asked about his visit to hospitals in Batman costume. The boy grew up, but the role grew on Robinson, who became known variously as the Route 29 Batman, Beltway Batman and Baltimore Batman.
He averaged about 18 visits a year to hospitals, schools and charity events, handing out toys and t-shirts, giving “Batman” autographs and discouraging kids from bullying, according to his website and his father, Larry Robinson.
According to the Washington Post, Robinson originally began wearing a Batman suit because it was one of his son’s, Brandon’s, favourite superheroes.
Strongin also reflected on her own experiences with Robinson and how he always offered kind words on her birthday despite never meeting in person. He would then take both to hospitals, visiting children as the caped super hero.
