The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says deputies seized 37 dogs, mostly Australian cattle dog mixes, from 58-year-old Demaris “Dee” Chess’ home on Tuesday. “The dogs were transported to two local animal shelters where they will receive additional medical care, as needed”, Richards said.

The dogs will become part of the humane society’s behavior modification program, Pressley said.

Ten of the rescued dogs are at the Colorado Springs Humane Society and five are at the Pueblo location.

The story unfolded when a neighbor contacted the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department about seeing a dog who looked like she had just had puppies that was possibly abandoned. “But in cases like this, we work collaboratively with other agencies/shelters to save as many lives as possible”.

Two of the dogs have already made full recoveries and are now up for adoption from the Dumb Friends League. A veterinarian on scene gave several dogs fluids and treated them for minor injuries before they were taken from the property.

The dogs were at the Dumb Friends League in Denver where they will be adopted to loving families.
