Apple Inc. Watch To Face Competition From Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch

Smartwatches are on track to becoming an essential device to complement smartphones, and Samsung aims to capitalize on this trend via its impressive-looking Gear S2. The known details till date are: the device will come with rotated round face, sleek metallic look and one thing is pretty sure that this watch will come with more powerful processor than its predecessor.

The teaser doesn’t give too much away, but the features look pretty standard – so far, we’ve seen a weather service, some nice-looking maps, fitness features (including a heart monitor), and naturally, messaging and calling.

Samsung has been hinting at a new smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch for some time now.

With Samsung holding its Unpacked 2015 even in August instead of September at IFA 2015, we now know more about the Gear A. There was no mention of it at the London event we attended but Samsung teased the device across the pond in New York.

Today, Samsung has released a teaser for Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch, which is likely to be launched at IFA Berlin on September 3rd. This seems entirely plausible, as Samsung’s press shots show no sign of a crown or additional side buttons. This year, the Korean giant will introduce a smartwatch with a round face to rival the likes of the Motorola Moto 360 and LG G Watch R called the Gear S2, codenamed Orbis. While the first Gear watch ran on Google’s open source-based Android mobile operating system, the Gear 2 was released with Tizen, a Linux-based OS with a wearables focus that’s being developed in a collaborative effort led by the Linux Foundation.

The interface looks much better too, since it’s actually optimised to make the most of the device – rather than simply being a shrunken phone as the Gear S was.

Samsung is working with a number of partners across numerous industries to “make inroads in the enterprise wearables category”, according to a white paper the company produced with the analyst firm IDG earlier this year. The icons are more rounded, just like the Apple Watch. This means that the day of rectangular smart watch of Samsung is gone.
