This past weekend, a woman named Sarah Clements, whose mother survived the shooting at Sandy Hook, wrote an open letter to Schumer asking her to become a vocal advocate for gun control.
Amy Schumer has promised to take a public stand on gun violence following the deadly shooting during a screening of her film “Trainwreck” last month.
In an unlikely pairing, comedian Amy Schumer and her cousin, New York senator Chuck Schumer (D), held a joint press conference on Monday where they announced an actual comprehensive plan to tackle gun-control laws.
Holding back tears, she said: ‘No one wants to live in a country where a felon, the mentally ill or other unsafe people can get their hands on a gun with such ease.’.
According to Deadline, the Senator proposed legislation will provide monetary rewards to states that provide “comprehensive information into background check records” and penalize states that don’t. They also urged increased funding for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
We’re here to say enough is enough. The Second Amendment says you have the right to bear arms, but it is not absolute.
Amy Schumer and Chuck Schumer have both since expressed their intent to continue their advocacy against gun violence.
As reported in The Sydney Morning Herald, Schumer joins a long line of celebrities, activists and the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama in pushing for gun control. “But I’m not sure”, Amy said. “There is a way to stop them”, she said.
However, the starlet didn’t only just send her condolences, she also teamed up with her relative Senator Chuck Schumer earlier that day to promote tighter gun control.
‘Preventing risky people from getting guns is very possible, ‘ said Schumer.
After the July 23 shooting at a movie theater in Lafayette during a screening of her new movie “Trainwreck“, Schumer responded by taking matters into her own hands.
“You’re like an actress-star”, Stewart said.
“Will we never know why people chose to do these terrible things but sadly we always find out how”.
The shooter, who was described as having a history of mental illness, killed two women, Jillian Johnson and Marci Breaux, and injured nine others.
