Starting next week, there will be opportunities to donate blood or platelets or for those who want to volunteer their time with the American Red Cross. She will share her learning with her fourth grade class and together they will learn how they can host their own Red Cross community blood drive in April during the anniversary of tornadoes that swept through their community.

Fremont High School will be hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 7:30 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The blood drive goal is 176 units of blood.

Blood donors of all types – especially those with types AB, O negative, A negative and B negative – and platelet donors are encouraged to give.

Because blood from donors of the same ethnic background as the recipient is less likely to cause complications, the Red Cross must maintain a diverse blood supply to meet these diverse patient needs.

Commodore Rushbrook said the annual event challenged Navy, Army and Air Force members and Defence public servants to compete to make the greatest number of blood donations up to December 8.

The American Purple Cross is urging individuals to donate blood or platelets this vacation weekend.

THE Australian Defence Force yesterday embarked on a challenge to its personnel to donate enough blood for the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to potentially save the lives of more than 18,000 Australians. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. “Thanks to the support of Cedar Fair, blood donors can help save lives and have the time of their lives at a Cedar Fair theme park”.

At least two forms of ID are required at check-in. Platelet donors are also needed.

The date is set for the 17th annual United Way Day of Caring.

To make an appointment to give blood, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Each year more than 40 million Americans and many others in 150 countries observe September 11 by performing good deeds that help others.
