Deliveries are done by restaurant staff, not by Amazon. Place your order by 12 p.m., and Amazon will get it to you by 9 p.m. It even delivers seven days a week.

Reuters said that the eCommerce giant has been in the process of forming a division titled Amazon Restaurants that “could mean” it is preparing to enter the ever-competitive fray that is the meal delivery market and step up the pace against more entrenched players like GrubHub. A report from Reuters points to job postings that hint at a new restaurant division for the company, operating in Seattle and New York. Reuters noted that there are more than a dozen job listings for an “Amazon Restaurants” that is based in Seattle and New York. At least five people have updated their LinkedIn pages to reflect they now work for the division, one of whom moved from food delivery competitor GrubHub.

Amazon has recently been aggressive in offering new food and drink to delivery services in addition to pantry and grocery deliveries. Now, though, it seems like they want to expand and modify that service, modeling it after courier food delivery companies like Postmates.

The company has been exploring different markets.

The exact objective of the division is unclear but the job description of at least one worker in the unit suggests Amazon is interested in expanding restaurant delivery services beyond Seattle, where recent media reports say the company is already testing its own meal delivery program. In July, Amazon has provided new details on its plan for a drone superhighway in the sky that could be used for home deliveries.
