Republican presidential hopeful Bobby Jindal is glad police officers are being careful-careful enough to arrest a 14-year-old for building a clock and bringing it to school.

As previously reported, Mohamed was handcuffed and interrogated for bringing what authorities believed to be a “hoax bomb” to his ninth grade English class on Monday. Alia Salem of the Council on American-Islamic Relations tweeted, “I think this wouldn’t even be a question if his name wasn’t Ahmed Mohamed“.

She made headlines in March when she accused Muslims of plotting to bypass United States courts by offering shariah-law mediation to worshippers.

After his arrest, Ahmed spoke to news outlets about what happened. The student showed the device to a teacher, who was concerned that it was possibly the infrastructure for a bomb. The teen has been suspended for the last three days.

In a statement Irving’s current mayor, Beth Van Duyne said Wednesday “I do not fault the school or the police for looking into what they saw as a potential threat”.

Boyd says the clock that Ahmed built looked “suspicious in nature”.

Irving Independent School District officials were not immediately available for comment.
