’60s series ‘Man from UNCLE’ comes to big screen

Only insofar as the name, though: Where the Nick Fury stories were espionage adventure dramas with a science-fiction tinge, “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” was a lighthearted satire of super spies – until the ratings faded and the final half-season became more serious.



Alison also caught up with director Guy on This Morning, but barely let him get his words out after asking him what the movie, a remake of the 1960s TV series, is all about. While the gadgetry might be a bit low-tech, the clothes, cars and settings are awesomely retro.

Clearly, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was a concept just waiting to be dusted off by somebody. (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement) would fight the nefarious villains of THRUSH, trade quips and romance the latest ingenue. The series was a pastiche which was itself pastiched, eventually yielding its own spin-off, The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.
