Brian Scott Short, 45, killed his wife, Karen Anne Short, 48; and his three children, Cole, 17; Madison, 15, and Brooklyn, 14, in their mansion near Lake Minnetonka, the sources said. The children had not been to school in two days.
Mr Short is the founder of AllNurses.com, a resource portal for nurses.
The biography describes Short as a former nursing student and entrepreneur who built and launched the website in the late 1990s when he couldn’t find nursing-related information online.
“Officers responded to the residence on Channel Drive in Greenwood and unfortunately found an entire family of five deceased”.
Police had gone to check on the family at 12:21 p.m. Thursday, following reports that no one had heard or seen from them in days, reported the Associated Press.
Minnetonka high school will have grief counselors on site throughout next week for students.
Siitari said officials haven’t found a note that might explain what happened, and he would not discuss any possible motives.
Authorities are calling it a complex crime scene that is being processed by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.
AllNurses.com was sued for defamation in federal court in New Jersey earlier this year by a nursing test preparation company.
On Thursday, a Minnetonka, Minnesota man shot and killed his wife and three children before killing himself.
The family’s home in Greenwood, a village of around 700 people on the shore of Lake Minnetonka, has been sealed off along with a nearby road which leads to the lake.
At the time, he said, he had entertained more than 50 buyout offers for the website, all of which he declined, citing ideas he still had for the business. There was nothing snooty about them at all.
“The neighbors went into shock”, he said.
“They were good neighbors”, Plocek told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. A retired couple, Plocek said the Shorts and their teenage children were always friendly when they bumped into them on the street. “Everyone is just so sad and can’t believe it”, he said.
