4 bridesmaids killed when DUI driver strikes limousine

On Saturday’s, the police chief said the crash was “one of the worst accidents I’ve ever seen”.

The accident occurred along a popular stretch of Long Island’s North Folk, which includes several wineries. The limo driver, and seven women in the bachelorette party, all either 23 or 24 years old, according to the New York Post, were turning out of Long Island’s Vineyard 48 Winery, when Steve Romeo, 54, slammed his truck into them. The driver of the pickup hit the brakes before the crash but could not stop in time, Flatley said. Police say the driver of the truck is in the hospital but has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Witnesses at the scene also described seeing ‘bloodied evening clothes’ with at least one of the victims heard screaming for her mother Southold Local reported. The truck t-boned the limo, nearly cutting it in half. He said surviving victims looked like they were in shock and there was no shouting or screaming. It was just arms, and heads and hair.’

The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. Three of the victims died on the scene while the fourth died at the Riverhead’s Peconic Bay Medical Center. The four women dead in the accident whose names were not released immediately, but police said they were all from the New York City area. All were bridesmaids, WCBS 880 radio reports.

Four other people in the limo who were injured were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Last Sunday, a father and his two children were killed when their sedan was rear-ended and the car burst into flames.

A Queens man was charged with driving while intoxicated in connection with the crash and another man was charged with driving his friend away from the scene.
