10-year-old boy survives alone in wilderness for over 24 hours

After searching for the boy with no luck, Bradley’s father hiked three miles to Paradise Park and drove to a point where he could call 911. Authorities said Malachi got lost while looking for mushrooms near a remote mountain lake.

Young Malachi was fishing with his family and, having already caught a fish, he was doing some exploring.

Malachi had hiked to Paul Lake with his brother, his sister, his father and his father’s friend when he walked away about 10:30 a.m., Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton said. A Facebook page dedicated to finding Malachi said helicopters equipped with infrared technology to detect body heat were being used in the search as well.

A missing 10-year-old boy was found safe Monday afternoon after spending nearly 30 hours alone in the High Uintas.

Personnel from neighboring counties in addition to the Ute Indian Tribe joined the seek for the boy. “We’re tasked with trying to think like a 10-year-old would”, says a Uintah County sheriff’s spokesman.

Malachi Bradley was checked out by paramedics for about 15 minutes before being turned over to his family.

Back in 2004 Kevin Bardsley’s son, Garrett Bardsley, went missing from his family’s campsite in the Uinta Mountains.

“It definitely made the list of my favorite moments of all time”, his mother Molly Chrisman said of the emotional reunion.

Malachi also said he saw multiple helicopters pass by his location in the open before he was eventually spotted.

“It was so exciting”, she said.

“I had to keep switching positions because the wind kept switching”, said Malachi, who wandered off while hiking with his family. “I’ve had grown males sit down for lunch, get up and say they knew which method they have been going to the automotive, seemed down on the Global Positioning System and realized they might have been going utterly the fallacious path”. The boy, 10, cited survival skills his dad taught him.
