Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said his office is “rapidly investigating” a weekend traffic stop that turned deadly when a University of Cincinnati police officer pulled over a motorist whose vehicle did not have a front license plate.
Investigators sifting through the contents of Tensing’s body camera have so far determined Dubose wasn’t able to produce for the officer his driver’s license and that he had a bottle of alcohol in the vehicle.
Before a University of Cincinnati officer shot Sam Dubose in the head Sunday night, he was pulled over for a missing front license plate on his vehicle.
Tensing has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The auto rolled forward and knocked Tensing to the ground, NBC News reported. She said release of the video could jeopardize a fair trial in the future.
The police officer then asked Mr Dubose to step out of the auto, after which a struggle ensued.
Scroll to the bottom of the story to hear audio from UC police officer Ray Tensing and dispatch as well as read the incident report. Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black told reporters the footage wouldn’t be released until the investigation is complete.
At some point, Tensing fired a single shot and Dubose – who was shot in the head – was able to restart the vehicle and begin to drive away, Whalen said.
With a protester shouting in the background, a local black leader said he sees a “groundswell of anger” developing like the one that led to the 2001 riots over the UC police shooting and the prosecutor’s refusal to release video of the killing.
A message was left for Tensing at UC’s police department.
“My son was not a violent person”.
UC police officers receive the same state-required training as all other police officers, Ono said. Tensing is white. Authorities haven’t indicated whether race is a part of the investigation.
“Ono said by participating in the collaboration agreement it will enhance transparency with CPD and the overall operation as an institution”.
Family and friends came to a makeshift memorial Monday near the site of the shooting to share their memories of Dubose. The president of the university’s police union didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the case is making national news at a time when police are under increased scrutiny amidst fatal officer-involved shootings in Ferguson, Missouri and North Charleston, South Carolina; the in-custody death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Maryland and now the arrest and in-custody death of Sandra Bland in Waller County, Texas.
